Sir Arnold Wolfendale Lecture Buffet (Thursday 25th October)
In 1912, Victor Hess discovered ‘Cosmic Radiation’ and despite the impact his discovery has had upon science since, we are still not entirely sure where they originate from. On the 25th of October at 6pm, Sir Arnold Wolfendale will give an informal, fun and informative talk entitled ‘Cosmic Rays – Their Discovery and their importance for Durham’.
The talk will take place in the Ustinov Room at 6pm. Sir Arnold promises to be an entertaining speaker, having written on subjects as diverse as the existence of God and historic clock making! Following the talk there will be a wine reception, and for SCR members and their guests a buffet in the Lakeside Room priced at £7 per person, charged to battels. Wine will be available to purchase during the buffet in the usual manner.

Halloween Formal (Tuesday 30th October)
The sign-up opens on Tuesday at 11am here. Places are allocated on a first come-first served basis and sign-up will close on Tuesday 23rd October at 11am. After the formal, COFUND Fellow Dr Andrea Cardini, who is resident in Van Mildert this term will give a short, informal talk.
