Mildert Day 55 – Saturday 27 June

Schedule and Timings

Dear SCR members, staff and friends,

We are delighted to share with you further details of Mildert Day 55 on Saturday 27 June 2020. With less than a week to go, we are really looking forward to bringing together the global Van Mildert College community, as we celebrate the conclusion of the academic year and 55 years of Van Mildert College. Here is how you can get involved…

Welcome from The Principal and auction launch – 12 noon

Join us on the Facebook event page (‘Mildert Day 2020’) as the Principal, Professor David Harper, launches Mildert Day 55 with a little help from some special guests! Dave will also launch the Mildert Day 55 Auction as part of the Van Mildert College COVID-19 Appeal. This is your opportunity to get your hands on much sought-after items kindly contributed by Van Mildert College Boat Club, the College Bar, and the Catering Team, along with tickets for some of the most popular College events, a voucher for a Gin Distillery Tour and many more items will be added over the next few days! All funds raised from the auction will go to the vital Internship Support Fund so do take a look here and get bidding! More about this at the end of this email.

Opera by the Lake (in Berlin!) – 12:30pm

Join SCR member and acclaimed international baritone, David Wakeham, in Berlin as he offers arias by Verdi, Wagner and more from the Berlin Opera House. What a rare treat! All available via the Facebook event page!

Stash Party on Tees Lawn – 1pm

Tees Lawn backgrounds will be provided! Arrange your own Zoom calls and send us photos of your meet ups via email ([email protected]) or by posting them on the Facebook event page!

The Big Mildert Quiz – 7pm

· It’s time to look through your phonebook and reconnect with all of those people once dubbed the ‘College knowledge’ as hosts Stephen Gardner (VM 1980-83), Abbie Bennington (VM 1995-98), Simon Povey (VM 2013-16) and current students test your ultimate Mildert knowledge through the ages! Teams of up to 10 are encouraged and more details, including how to join the quiz will follow soon.

Join us in Mildert Bar – 9 pm onwards

· Join us on Zoom and make use of our various backgrounds to recreate a relaxed evening in Mildert Bar. Break-out rooms will be available for smaller groups. At 10 pm we will toast the Class of 2020 and the end of the academic year! Ask a member of the Executive for the details of the Zoom meeting.

Van Mildert College COVID-19 Appeal

The world has changed beyond recognition in just a few months and the daily life of our College and local community with it. We have continued to support our students during these unprecedented times and our resilient community has come together in a way that truly reflects our community spirit. We have much to be immensely proud of. However, the impact of COVID-19 on the graduate recruitment market is undeniable and may well be long-lasting. Many of our students face an uncertain future as the UK and global economy adjusts and recovers from COVID-19. Our COVID-19 Appeal therefore seeks your support as we develop our portfolio of internships along with a support fund through which students can gain financial support to participate.

If you are able to offer an internship to a Van Mildert College student of between 2 and 8 weeks at your company or place of work during the Easter or Summer 2021 vacations or thereafter, please contact us. Alternatively, please consider contributing to our Internship Support Fund either via the Mildert Day 55 Auction or by contacting us directly ([email protected]). We hope that through your support we will be able to offer current students exceptional opportunities across a wide range of internships that will support their development and ensure they are in the best possible position to secure employment despite the exceptional circumstances that we all currently face.

Security & Privacy Notice
Whilst we have taken steps to ensure the privacy and security of all of our events during Mildert Day 55, we do ask that you do not share the contents of this email with any third parties. We appreciate your support with this, if you do have any queries, please let us know by contacting [email protected].

We are looking forward to seeing you at Mildert Day 55! It promises to be a wonderful celebration and we are looking forward to seeing your posts of videos or photos on our Facebook page throughout the day – please do share your memories of Mildert. They mean so much.

With our very best wishes,

Dave and Vicky
